Paul Dangl

Grew up in the North of Austria and was exposed to folk music from early childhood. Moved to Vienna at the age of 19 where he joined the world music band „Nim Sofyan“, with whom he also won the Austrian World Music Award 2004. Since then performing abroad on extensive tours (to Taiwan, India, Syria and Turkey a.o.).

2004/05 one year stay in Glasgow, Scotland, where he attended master classes in folk music with Catriona MacDonald, Aidan O’Rourke and Chris Stout a.o.

From 2006-10 Paul Dangl studied jazz-violin at the Carinthian Conservatory in Klagenfurt, Austria with Prof. Max Grosch. In June 2010 he passed the exams in both instrument teaching as well as violin with distinction. Since 2010 touring with his own Jazz-band  (Soulstring Band). Nominated for the All Star Band at the Berklee Summer School in Perugia, Italy, for the opening of the Umbria Jazz Winter Festival 2010.

2012 he founded the jazzband „Travel Image“ togehter with one of Austria’s finest saxophone player Clemens Salesny, and with this band they’re touring on jazz festival both in Austria and abroad.

2013 Paul founded his own international folk band „Black Market Tune“, this band has been nominated for the Austrian World Music Award 2014, and in winter 2015 they go on a 6-week festival tour to Australia.

Musician and composer in the genres of folk, world music and jazz, experimental violinist at the famous viennese „Burgtheater“ and jazz-violin teacher on the Vienna Music Institute (VMI).
